I own a flat in Hackney where I used to live, and I now rent it out. I think I am a decent landlord. I want tenants to have a fair deal in London.

End of an AST is currently the most common cause of homelessness and homelessness levels are increasing fast. In combination, points 1 and 2 of the ten steps to improve renting are highly likely to reverse the trend.

We rent privately and are very lucky with our landlord but I know a lot of people that struggle and although our landlord is very good the rent is still high.

The private rental market is almost completely unregulated and heavily weighted in favour of the landlord rather than the tenant. As house prices continue to run out of control, more and more individuals are forced into become consumers of a service that does not offer a fair trade.

I pay half of my take home earnings on rent because I have little choice to work anywhere else but London. The concentration of careers in London is keeping people captive to the high living costs, and something must be done to ease the pressure especially to those on minimum wage.

I love hackney and want it to be an affordable and safe area for a variety of people to live in. I especially don't want those who grew up there to be priced out by ludicrous rents.
