10 Minute Passing Periods for Lynchburg City Schools
Currently, Lynchburg City Schools' passing periods are five minutes long. Considering classes are scattered among four different floors, these five minutes give us exactly enough time to get to our next class. However, there is no time to stop at lockers, use the bathroom, or talk to a teacher if needed. Because of this, students have to use the bathroom during class, cutting into instructional time. Not to mention, very few students use their lockers because there is so little time to stop. Some students have classes on the third floor followed by a class on the basement floor, giving them barely enough time to make it to their next period.
These are some of the many problems students face because of short passing periods. Longer passing periods would overall improve students' ability to get to class on time, focus on class instruction without interruption, and take care of physical needs, such as dropping off items that are not needed and using the bathroom. Longer passing periods are a necessity for productive learning.
