「 1:1 不從惡人的計謀、不站罪人的道路、不坐褻慢人的座位、
Not sitting in the Seat of Scoffers––A Petition Demanding the Resignation of the Most Reverend Paul Kwong, the Archbishop and Primate of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui from the member of CPPCC in China
“1 Happy are those
who do not follow the advice of the wicked,
or take the path that sinners tread,
or sit in the seat of scoffers;
2 but their delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law they meditate day and night.
3 They are like trees
planted by streams of water,
which yield their fruit in its season,
and their leaves do not wither.
In all that they do, they prosper.
4 The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.” (Psam 1:1~6)
On the list of the latest Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), The Most Reverend Paul Kwong, the Archbishop and Primate of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui (Anglican Church), is appointed to be a member of CPPCC. However we are resentful to this appointment.
The CPPCC is a political vase of the Chinese Communist Party in order to maintain the so-called “Multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of Communist Party”, i.e. the one-party dictatorship. According to the Constitution of People's Republic of China, CPPCC is the “the united front of patriotism with wide representativity”; simply speaking, it is a “consolidated” pro-CCP organisation. Christians know clearly the history of violation against human right by CCP, particularly oppression on religious freedom. We think that the Most Reverend Kwong, as a key leader of Christianity in Hong Kong and Macao, should resign from the member of CPPCC, for:
I.The members of CPPCC are “consulted” instead of elected by a fair and democratic election;
II.The CPPCC is an “consolidated” pro-CCP organisation, therefore being a member equals to joining the “united front” of the CCP dictatorship; and,
III.The aim of CPPCC is to defend the one-party dictatorship of CCP, but Christian can hardly tolerate the continuous violation against human right by CCP.
The Anglican Communion always emphasises the social justice. We wish the Most Reverend Kwong will follow the example of Christ, meditate the law of God day and night, and keep a distance from the CCP government so as to avoid being used by the CCP.
We encourage all congregants and all clergies from all Christian denomination allover the world to sign this petition, especially Anglican/ Episcopalian. Please write down your name, title (if applicable), country/region and your denomination and church/parish.
