ジェンダー代名詞とは他人が自分を呼ぶときに使ってほしい代名詞であり、多くの場合、性自認に基づきます。女性を表す「彼女」、男性を表す「彼」、中性代名詞である「彼ら」など約８０種類があります。SNSのプロフィールの横に "she/her" "they/them" と書いてあるのを見たことがありませんか？それがまさにジェンダー代名詞です。

相手のジェンダー代名詞を使うことは相手のジェンダーアイデンティティを尊重することを示します。また、ジェンダー代名詞でよばれることで「自分の居場所がある」と感じることができます。

バーモント大学をはじめとする、ハーバードやスタンフォードなど約２６６のアメリカの大学が個人調査票にジェンダー代名詞の記入欄を設けています。

学校において話し合いや三者面談のとき、自分の思いに反して「"彼"の意見は〇〇ですね」「"彼女"の成長を楽しみにしています」などと言われたら良い気分はしませんよね。トランスジェンダーやXジェンダーの方はそれによってアイデンティティを否定された気分になる方も少なくないはずです。

日本の教育機関の個人調査票にジェンダー代名詞の記入欄をつくってください。そして、先生や生徒同士がお互いのジェンダー代名詞を尊重して使える環境を整えてください。

In Japan, gender pronouns are not as valued as they are in some other countries. Most people do not realize the importance of respecting preferred pronouns, and the topic is never drawn attention to. People assume each other's pronouns by their appearance and go with it. 

I read online that more than 266 universities in the United States allow students to write their pronouns into their student records. That had me thinking, if educational institutions such as college, high school, middle school, etc. in Japan start respecting pronouns, people may start respecting them naturally. Moreover, children who are hesitant to go to school because they fear that they will not be appreciated for who they are will be able to feel safe at school.

This petition is to give students in schools in Japan the ability to write their gender pronouns on their student records, and to make teachers and fellow students respect them. I believe that this is the first step to making Japan a place where all gender identities are accepted, and preferred gender pronouns are used.
