A new unit will be added into the syllabus of Primary 4 textbooks beginning next year; in which they need to learn Seni Khat or Jawi Calligraphy.
Our Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching said, the Jawi Calligraphy is only part of teaching, to make the learning process more interesting. There is no examination at present, but in the future, we must rely on ourselves mutual supervision.
We oppose the compulsory teaching Jawi Calligraphy in vernacular school as part of the curriculum syllabus. As we feel it might increase the burden of primary school students, and whether it is economically valuable to learn Jawi Calligraphy, we should think twice about our priorities in education.
Hence, will you accept compulsory teaching of Jawi Calligraphy in our vernacular school?
If you oppose this policy, please join us in conveying the voice of our people to the Federal Government, especially the Ministry of Education, and urge the authority to withdraw this policy!
