Petitioning Kingston City Council and 12 others

Prevent the 72-hour pound seizure

The Kingston Humane Society (KHS) provides exceptional care to lost animals or those without homes through its pound services.  But as costs are rising, the Kingston Humane Society will no longer be able to provide pound services to the city unless more funds are granted.

Because of this, Kingston City Council has deferred their decision for a 'request for proposal' for pound services to be issued. Basically, this means that after 72 hours, an animal who is impounded in Kingston may be taken for research purposes.

Please sign my petition asking Kingston City Council to either grant the Kingston Humane Society more funding so that they can continue humane pound services, or ensure that any future agreement regarding pound services include a clause that animals will not be made available for research purposes whether the new Pound Services agreement is with the Kingston Humane Society or with another service provider.

The decision has been deffered until later this summer.  Your signatures are still needed!

I just signed the following petition addressed to: City of Kingston.

----------------
Dear Kingston City Council,

I understand that Kingston City Council has deferred the decision for a 'request for proposal' for pound services, and that this would mean after 72 hours a lab could requisition the animals and that they must be turned over for research purposes.

Please protect Kingston's animals, by either granting Kingston Humane Society more funding so that they can continue humane pound services, or ensure that any future agreement regarding pound services include a clause that animals will not be made available for research purposes whether the new Pound Services agreement is with the Kingston Humane Society or with another service provider.

Sincerely,
