Clean Air Protection Campaign

Greenpeace, League of Conservation Voters, Environment America and other organizations worked with Change.org to submit over 1.4 million comments in support of clean air regulations.

Goal

Demonstrate popular support for EPA’s Carbon Pollution Standard.

Solution

Launch Sponsored Campaigns to find supporters to voice their support.

Results

1.4 million signatures of support generated in less than 10 weeks.

In 2012, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) developed standards that would limit industrial carbon pollution from power plants. Immediately after, dirty air lobbyists spent millions of dollars on TV ads, lawsuits, and other political actions to stop the EPA’s new standards from being enforced.

With little time to waste, Greenpeace, League of Conservation Voters, Environment America and other organizations launched nationwide campaigns in support of clean air protections including promotion through Change.org.

By utilizing promoted sponsored campaigns on Change.org, these organizations increased the number of people voicing public support for the Carbon Pollution Standard to the EPA by 300% for a total of 2.1 million comments. This is the largest number of signatures and comments submitted to any federal regulation in U.S. history.
