We are citizens of Pottstown and surrounding communities. Our town of 5 sq. miles, population 22,000, in Montgomery County, Pa. is one of two boroughs in the county that carry the weight of Voucher Housing, Group Homes, the disabled, the drug addicted and the poor.
From unsafe housing to crime rates that are among the highest in the Nation and the State, we continue to lose homeowners and businesses at an alarming rate as our tax base erodes and greedy income investors house the poor in sub-standard conditions.
The neglect by the these property owners, renters, local, county, state and federal governments have contributed, through their actions, to the rapid decline of our quality of life and the environment while our home values sink and our streets have become land mines of garbage, raw sewage, armed drug dealers and criminal elements.
We oppose additional housing for poor and low-income people, including tax-credit developments, in Pottstown. It is our position that the burden is no longer tenable for homeowners, working renters, conscientious landlords and other businesses, the school district or the municipality
