I purchased two young budgerigars from a pet shop in Sydney. Both birds had to be euthanised within days. Both birds had broken legs, had their primary wing feathers clipped and the latest one was diagnosed with not only a broken tibia but infection by at least two identified pathogens that were present at the time of purchase.
I've referred this matter to the RSPCA who are conducting an investigation into the potential cruelty these creatures suffered at the hands of those who profited from their short brutal lives.
This matter is now before you to consider signing and sharing this important Petition. Its purpose is to call on the law-makers to amend the law so that suffering of this kind is ended.
All social problems begin with Rules. If the Rule is not clear or not enforced, then the law will not protect the vulnerable, including the animals in our care.
Accordingly, it is time for the Parliament to consider this matter and make new rules or enquire into the existing law because it is failing catastrophically. I urge all who see this Petition to make it known to the Members of Parliament who make our laws, that we expect the Law to protect all animals traded by us for profit.
Each year, Japanese ships hunt and kill whales in the Southern Ocean on the false pretence of scientific research. All whales are protected and whaling is strictly regulated by the International Whaling Commission.
The hunting and killing of whales is an incomprehensible crime against nature that shocks our collective conscience.
We know that whales are highly intelligent, sentient and social creatures that are by far the largest life forms that have ever existed on our planet.
The annual slaughter of whales by Japan must stop. This petition is intended to make known your objection to, condemnation of and your demand for an immediate stop to all whaling by Japan.
