Keep Culver Blvd Dining: Save the Heart of Downtown Culver City

Our goal is to keep dining on Culver Blvd.  We need your help!  The City Council voted recently to revert back the north side of Culver Blvd allowing cars back on Culver, and thus ending Culver’s restaurants outdoor street dining areas. This would be a complete disaster for many businesses, our employees and you, our community. This single action the city of Culver has proposed will cut struggling businesses off at the knees just as we are getting back to normalcy.  We foresee our vibrant downtown reverting  back to a pass-thru commuter belt. We propose that the council rethink and re-vote on this matter. We support keeping outdoor street dining on Culver Blvd thru 2021 and a compromise allowing 1 extra lane of traffic + the bus/bike lane, this is known as Option #3. This would be more than sufficient to allow commuters to travel while giving the residents, employees of Culver’s businesses and visitors alike the opportunity to continue to enjoy al-fresco dining on Culver Blvd. It also meets all mobility goals set out by the city’s Dept. of Transportation Why are you the ones representing the issues? We are restaurant operators, residents and workers from Culver City who are going to be directly affected by the city actions. Who is affected by the issue? So many restaurant workers and business owners will be pushed to the limit of their financial resources and safety if this vote passes. We will lose jobs and some businesses will be forced to close their doors as they won’t be able to climb their way out of the losses from the Covid shutdown.  Not to mention you, our neighbors will no longer have the beautiful expanded dining on Culver Blvd.  What can we do about the issue? Sign our petition and let the City Council know that we need outdoor dining on Culver Blvd to continue to save our businesses and jobs. Who can make a direct difference? Your voice, our Mayor, Vice Mayor and the Culver City Council can make a difference by keeping outdoor dining in place throughout the remainder of the year; while re-voting and selecting Option 3, allowing for the compromised hybrid street parklet dining. Culver City was a pioneer in creating and sustaining the al-fresco dining movement, while creating a safe and happy refuge from the storm of the pandemic. Many, many residents have expressed enthusiastic support for outdoor dining on Culver Blvd and additionally many of them still do not feel comfortable dining indoors yet. If we lose our outdoor dining in Culver City, people will simply dine elsewhere in neighboring communities around Los Angeles, as LA has overwhelmingly decided to keep al-fresco dining moving forward. Losing outdoor dining will also lose the city its vibrancy, bustling community feel and much revenue. Please help our efforts by signing and sharing our petition to urge the city council to keep our city thriving and safe. Thank you for all your continued support.
