Vote NO on HB1840--the Counseling Discrimination bill.

On Feb. 9 at 1:30 the TN House Health Subcommittee may consider HB1840, which would allow counselors to opt out of serving clients based on the counselor's sincerely held religious beliefs. Laws should be designed to protect the client, which is the current priority of the current code of ethics for counselors. This bill allows the agenda of the counselor to become dominant. It adds stigma to a situation in which a client is seeking help. This bill seems designed to target the LGBT community.

TN Senate: Do not sponsor Rep. Hulsey's bathroom bill

Rep. Bud Hulsey is introducing an anti-transgender bathroom bill targeting students in Tennessee schools.  See this NewsChannel5 story for background.  The bill is overreaching and it opens transgender students to more bullying.  We urge members of the Tennessee Senate NOT to sponsor or file a companion bill.

Learn accurate information about gender neutral pronouns at UT-K

Family Action of Tennessee is urging its members to contact the Legislature about the University of Tennessee-Knoxville's practice of introducing the university community to gender neutral pronouns.  Based on distorted news reports, Family Action is trying to get the Legislature to pressure UT to drop it.  We say that they should let UT-K determine its own programming and find the best ways to make its campus welcoming for all students.  Please, contact members of key education committees in the Legislature to provide accurate information.
