We Demand that a Second Surgery is Created to Adequately Serve Wellington People
Wellington People Deserve better. We currently have a GP Practice that reverses the public service ethos and makes everyone in our community feel that we are serving the needs of the practice rather than the other way around. Wellington Medical Practice are using the Pandemic as an excuse for the appalling service they are delivering to our community. A survey was conducted by concerned residents in 2011/2012 to determine if their poor experience was replicated across the community. The results revealed a high level of concern with over 80% citing poor experiences booking appointments and finding physical access to the building extremely difficult. Over 50% of the respondents said that they would not recommend the Surgery to others. Currently there is anecdotal evidence of a deliberate policy preventing access to medical professionals with unqualified receptionists advising that patients should not need to see a doctor. The neighbouring practice of Shawbirch has twice the number of clinicians for a smaller number of patients. The Ratios of GP to Patient in Wellington is 1000 patients higher than the national average. Without adequate provision in the Wellington catchment area we fear for the safety of the most vulnerable members of our community. Wellington previously had 2 practices to serve this growing community but the second practice closed soon after it had opened due to the influx of disaffected patients transferring from the Wellington Practice. We demand that a second surgery is commissioned for the People of Wellington, better cited with accessibility. The current practice has a 50 metre ramp up to its entrance which makes it difficult for wheelchair users, elderly foot patients etc. This additional provision should meet the expectations of the people of Wellington to be seen in a timely fashion, by a named GP who that patients can ask to see.
