Enough is Enough - Sign our petition to Save Our Slough High Street #SOSHighStreet
Enough is enough - It's time to Save Our Slough High Street. Our High Street has been run into the ground so badly that residents are having to go to neighbouring High Streets because Slough no longer has a good enough High Street. Even our town centre night-time economy has been driven out. The Labour-led Council has deliberately neglected and permitted our High Street to decline over a period of 10 years in anticipation of proposed developments, but now that these plans seem to have stalled, Slough residents are left with a dysfunctional High Street and no hope in sight. We feel that this lack of progress is the worst of all possible outcomes, and we the undersigned call on the council to fully disclose what is going on with the existing proposals, what their plan is to move things forward and what impact further delays will have on our local economy.
Save Bowyer Recreation Ground & all public green spaces in Slough from development
As part of the council's Canal Basin redevelopment plans, Bowyer Recreation Ground is under threat from residential development, which will leave thousands of residents in that part of Central Slough without a public green space. Bowyer Recreation Ground was bequeathed to the people of Slough to allow it to remain as a benefit for the whole community - and the council needs to respect this. These types of green spaces are for residents - and not only protect vital and limited, open spaces for leisure but also contribute to providing our town environment with cleaner air, essential given the town is the third most polluted town in the South East, as well as encouraging active lifestyles, vital in a town with high obesity rates. The undersigned petition the council to ensure that it protects Bowyer Recreation Ground and all existing public green spaces across Slough from being developed on for residential or commercial purposes as part of its current and future local plans, for the benefit of residents' quality of life.
Protect Slough open spaces properly from illegal traveller incursions
Over the course of the last 6 months, residents across Slough have faced problems with numerous illegal encampments on public land and open space in the town. They have been faced with dealing with the disruption and mess that comes with these incursions, and time and time again Slough Borough Council has had to use council resources to evict travellers from these incursions - including Little Chapels Way Park in Cippenham and Kedermister Park in Langley. This petition calls on the council to act to secure these sites properly to prevent further disruption to residents and cost to precious council resources. This includes the installation of bollards where necessary at both of these sites, and a renewed effort to ensure that all council-owned sites across the town that could be illegally used by travellers are properly secured 365 days at year, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day in the right way.
