UK party leaders: Commit to including people with disabilities in global aid

We're calling on the leaders of all UK political parties to make disability-inclusive development a manifesto promise. Haja, who’s blind, wants to be a teacher when she grows up. She goes to an inclusive school in Sierra Leone, set up to cater for students with and without disabilities. Because she’s included, she’s getting an education and will have the chance, like her peers, to one day find a job and contribute to her community. In developing countries around the world, hundreds of millions of children with disabilities aren’t as fortunate as Haja – where she’s learning and dreaming of the future, they’re being left behind. But if our leaders commit to making sure global aid reaches the most marginalised people worldwide, these children could all have a future where they can learn, earn and be happy. Help us make it happen – please sign our petition calling on political party leaders to commit to improving the lives of people with disabilities in their manifestos. Education’s not the only area where inclusive global development can transform lives – it can open up access to employment and health care for the world’s most marginalised people, it can combat discrimination and negative attitudes, and it can have a huge economic impact in communities, creating growth and reducing poverty. If the UK government shows global leadership by making sure people with disabilities are included when aid decisions are made, it could genuinely change the world. That’s why we’re calling on all party leaders to make disability-inclusive development a manifesto promise – we want them to commit to reaching the people who for too long have been left behind.
