It has been brought to our attention that the Parks and Recreation Department is in the process of establishing one of the following and bringing it before the Board of Commissioners for a vote:⦁ Creating an ordinance banning all commercial activity across the county that utilizes the public boat ramps or parks.⦁ Establishing a policy and putting it out to bid for one company per location to operate utilizing the county's public boat ramps or parks.
Either way this creates a situation where many companies face being put completely out of business. Companies such as:⦁ Airboat Eco Tour Operators⦁ Pontoon Boat Eco Tour Operators⦁ Fishing Guides & Charters⦁ Boat, Jetski, canoe, kayak etc. rental companies.
Many of these Tourism Company's have been operating for the better part of 30 years, others 10 years and some newer. Most are lifelong Florida Natives dating back generations. Currently the Parks and Recreations Rules and Regulations state operating a commercial business is prohibited without a concessionaire license from the County Commissioners yet to date there is no concessionaire license in existence available to us. Therefore, we operate on the basis of a letter dated April 20, 2012 from Matt Suedmeyer, Manager of Parks and Recreation, that states we can operate our businesses but cannot advertise or conduct business transactions on park property. We abide by the rules given to us in this letter. We do not solicit business on park property, we do not receive payment from our customers on park property, we do not advertise on park property. We simply launch our vessels from the boat ramp and load our customers and go.
We need to UNITE and fight this or we will be in danger of being shut down. We feel that a fair permitting process needs to be established so that we can all continue operating our business as we always have.
We invite you, the public, the locals, our customers and the additional businesses that operate as we do to sign our petition and show Orange County officials that we are united on this issue. Even as a member of the general public we need your help to show County Officials that our businesses do not interfere with the general public's usage of the County Parks and Public Boat Ramps.
