Stop NYC Intro. 2186-2020 "Planning Together" from becoming law and ruining NYC forever!
Petition from New York City Residents Against NYC Council Speaker Corey Johnson’s Comprehensive Up-zoning and Over-development Bill - Intro. 2186-2020 January 27th, 2021 With little fanfare and no circulation to the public, Community Boards or other elected officials, on December 16th, 2020, New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson released a document entitled Planning Together: A New Comprehensive Planning Framework for New York City followed by a bill introduced in the City Council on December 17th – Intro. 2186-2020. While this proposed law is described by the Speaker as creating comprehensive planning for New York City with increased input from our neighborhoods and communities on how to determine our own futures, in terms of schools, parks, housing, infrastructure and every other aspect that governs our lives, the actual result would be the exact opposite. This includes but is not limited to: - The removal, not enhancement, of input from neighborhoods, Community Boards and elected officials in land use decisions - Mandatory up-zonings required every decade in each Community Board area to increase high-density housing development and create a quota system - The potential elimination of single-family zoning and off-street parking requirements in the entirety of the City of New York To add insult to injury, the methodology used by Speaker Johnson and his staff is, at best, just plain wrong and, at worst, a purposeful attempt to justify their position through knowingly lying to the public. Stop Intro. 2186-2020 from becoming law and ruining New York City forever!
