Why were the basic needs of Sergei Skripals pets not provided? Future procedures required
According to The Guardian online Friday 6th April 2018 “Two guinea pigs belonging to Sergei Skripal died and his cat was put down after the Salisbury nerve agent attack, the government has revealed. A spokeswoman for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) said the dead guinea pigs and a “distressed” cat were discovered when a vet was able to enter Skripal’s home, which had been sealed off during the police investigation. Defra said it believed the guinea pigs had died of thirst” We the undersigned demand a full investigation as to why this happened in view of the large police, security services and forensics presence at the property. We would like to know how it was possible for the animals basic needs to be ignored by so many, to the point of death in the case of the guinea pigs. Their death by thirst must have been agonising and entirely preventable. We would also like measures to be put in place so that this does not happen again and so that the pets of people taken suddenly ill in any circumstances are adequately cared for by the authorities until either the recovery or death of their owners, whereupon the owner should make adequate provision for the pets through their estate.
