Clare Curran: Stand Down as Dunedin South MP
Strike 3 - You're Out! The Dunedin south area gets an unfair, bad rap and has negative connotations attached to it, especially in the wider Dunedin area. Many hardworking volunteer groups and individuals try hard every day to combat these stereotypes, but we are undermined when our own Member of Parliament cannot conduct herself in a professional manner. The actions of Clare Curran during her time as a Minister have been very damaging and reflect poorly on the people of South Dunedin because our local Labour members nominate and select her, and our people living in the electorate vote to put our trust in her during the general election. This means our ability to judge who best represents us as an electorate is under constant scrutiny. We trust that our MP will act in the best interests of Dunedin South and the country, but Clare has proved herself to be an unprofessional and incompetent Minister, and her time as an opposition MP since 2008 has been filled with what some consider to be "treachery" at Labour branch level and inaction and ineffectiveness at electorate level. Had Clare been guilty of a few minor mistakes, we would likely not be calling for her total resignation from parliament. However, given the serious nature of her conduct and the fact that the saga keeps continuing to put South Dunedin in a negative spotlight on the national stage, we respectfully ask that Clare do the right thing by her constituents and give us the chance to vote for an alternative representative in a by-election. Clare has indicated that she resigned from her portfolios because the drama and scrutiny surrounding her conduct was a distraction and reflected badly on her Prime Minister and Government. That being the case, why can't Clare show her constituents the same level of respect and resign totally so we aren't likewise being reflected upon badly? Has Clare taken our support for granted? Are we not also worth considering, or are we just a "safe bet" and an afterthought for the South Dunedin Labour party?
Classify ANTIFA groups as 'Designated Terrorist Entities' under the TSA
The Terrorism Suppression Act defines terrorism, in New Zealand or elsewhere, as an act that "is carried out for the purpose of advancing an ideological, political, or religious cause" and with the following intention: to induce terror in a civilian population; or to unduly compel or to force a government or an international organisation to do or abstain from doing any act. We are seeing the second example play out at a rapidly increasing rate. Mob rule and the 'thug's veto' are a direct threat to the safety and civil liberties of New Zealanders. So-called anti-fascist groups are in large part responsible for a very real and increasing risk to public safety, property rights, social harmony and civil liberties throughout the Western world and increasingly in New Zealand. These groups are known for threatening and intimidating behaviour. Their primary objective is to actively suppress the ability of citizens to exercise their right to free speech, expression and lawful congregation.ANTIFA groups are becoming increasingly aggressive in the tactics they use to enact their genuine fascist agenda. As things stand, ANTIFA in New Zealand is limited to a host of loosely-related groups as attempts to start genuine chapters/branches have been stamped out by mainstream New Zealanders fairly quickly. However, it's only a matter of time until some of the radicals involved with these affiliated groups start organising into a larger, more threatening movement, and we are seeing more references to ANTIFA and an imitation of the ANTIFA extremist dress-style being incorporated into these domestic fringe groups. We, the undersigned, request that ANTIFA groups, domestic and international, are classified as 'designated terrorist entities' under the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002.This is a matter of a urgency.
