    Protect our Human Rights Defenders

Human Rights Defenders are at risk all over the world. The United Nations Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner has created the Declaration on Human Rights Defenders to help protect those who risk their lives protecting human rights for the rest of us by encouraging countries to sign on and promote the 1998 agreement. The Declaration of Human Rights Defenders tells us that we all have a role to fulfil as human rights defenders and emphasizes that there is a global human rights movement that involves us all. The Declaration’s full name is the “Declaration on the Right and Responsibility of Individuals, Groups and Organs of Society to Promote and Protect Universally Recognized Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms” – with this longer title is frequently abbreviated to “The Declaration on human rights defenders”. (n)Ever a Leader, Inc. is asking it's governor and U.S. Senators to sponsor an effort to formalize support for the Declaration on Human Rights Defenders in Ohio. We believe, by taking a leadership stand for Human Rights Defenders, other states and other 'leaders of the people' will follow your model. When anyone puts their lives and wellbeing at stake on behalf of others--whether our military, foreign service workers, or human rights defenders including journalists; we need to do everything we can to ensure they are able to carry out their work. Ohio, home of (n)Ever a Leader, Inc., is asking Governor John Kasich and U.S. Senators Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman, to take a stand on behalf of human rights defenders by adopting General Assembly Resolution A/RES/53/144 in the state of Ohio and adding a declaration of support on the State of Ohio website and the official websites for Senators Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman.  Standing up for our human rights defenders by publicly supporting them on a website is a little ask with a big impact. When we stand for human rights we stand for humanity.  www.neveraleader.org
