Amongst our notable supporters stand well-known atheists, theists, right wing politicians and left wing and liberal celebrities, as well as a whole range of people from various countries, ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds. ‘Human Rights for Atheists, Agnostics and Secularists’ is truly a human movement. I find it very encouraging that we can all put our petty differences aside, whether Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Atheist, Agnostic or none of the above, and place human rights over human beliefs, by standing together to achieve this extremely important human rights goal – Abolish blasphemy laws! ~Michael Sherlock – (Founder and Chair – Human Rights for Atheists, Agnostics and Secularists)

Vote Saudi Arabia Off the United Nations Human Rights Council

Human Rights for Atheists, Agnostics and Secularists is calling upon members of the UN Human Rights Council to immediately vote off Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia's human rights' record is appalling and it continues to egregiously infringe upon the human rights of its citizens. Saudi Arabia refuses to ratify the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which would oblige it under international law to protect the rights of its citizens. Furthermore, as stated by Human Rights Watch, Saudi Arabia is guilty of 'gross and systematic violations in Yemen', which threaten the Council's credibility'. Finally, it is an unmitigated affront to global human rights to have Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the UN, Faisal bin Hassan Trad, occupy the Chair of the United Nations Human Rights Council panel that appoints independent experts, so we also call upon members remedy this credibility-crushing disaster for global human rights.

URGENT: Save Asia Bibi from Imminent Execution for Blasphemy in Pakistan - *Sign & Share*

Human Rights for Atheists, Agnostics and Secularists is urgently calling upon world leaders and the United Nations to pressure Pakistan into sparing the life of Asia Bibi, a mother of five who was convicted of blasphemy in 2009. The date of Asia’s final appeal has been set and should her counsel fail on this final appeal, this innocent mother of five, who has been wrongfully imprisoned on death row and separated from her children for over half a decade, will be heinously hung from the neck in a horrendous and inhumane act of state-sanctioned religious barbarism. It is up to every single citizen of the world to come to Asia’s aid and pressure their own governments and leaders into supporting this urgent cause. Write letters, post on social media, urgently raise awareness of Asia’s heartbreaking plight as a persecuted religious minority in Pakistan. Please sign and share this important petition to save the life of a woman who has been made to suffer horribly for the victimless crime of blasphemy.   Read more about Asia’s struggle here:  BBC - Pakistan Supreme Court suspends Asia Bibi death sentence: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-33617186  Reuters - Pakistan Supreme Court to hear Christian woman's blasphemy case: http://www.reuters.com/article/us-pakistan-blasphemy-idUSKCN0PW11Z20150722 ACLJ - Christian Mom Asia Bibi Sentenced to Death Will Hang for “Blasphemy” Pakistan Appeals Court Says: http://aclj.org/persecuted-church/christian-mom-to-hang-blasphemy

Abolish Blasphemy Laws

Blasphemy laws are used to infringe upon human rights.  They frequently lead to arbitary arrest, detention, poor treatment in custody including torture, dubious legal procedures and poor application of justice.  The definition of the offence can be in the hands of police and judicial authorities.  Governments have used blasphemy laws to silence political opponents.  Individuals have fabricated blasphemy charges against others in communal disputes.  Religious extremists have used blasphemy laws to attack opponents.  Religious authorities have used blasphemy laws to impose orthodoxy on members minority religious groups with the sanction of the state.  And people accused of blasphemy have been subject to violence by unofficial mobs.
