Petitioning Tracy City Council

Allow Parkway Gardening in Tracy, CA

The Los Angeles City Council voted to allow edible gardening on the city parkways. While permits are still required for planting of fruit trees, it is now legal for residents to fix edible herb and vegetable plants in curbside parkways that are shorter than 36” in height. We, the undersigned citizens of Tracy, CA, express our desire for the Tracy City Council to vote to immediately adopt residential parkway landscaping guidelines that allow for edible parkway gardening. We offer the residential parkway landscaping guidelines recently adopted by the Los Angeles City Council as a model for guidelines to be adopted in our city.    We believe this to be beneficial to our community because: 1) allowing gardeners to plant in parkways allows for utilization of valuable land that would otherwise go to waste; 2) parkway gardens would increase access to nutrients for all community-members; 3) parkway gardens can help beautify the city and improve curb appeal.   We implore our city representatives to take this step for our community! Please adopt residential parkway landscaping guidelines that allow for edible parkway gardening.
