Stop eviction of the Via Idro Roma community in Milan
On January 10th, 20 Roma families will be evicted from the regular camp called Via Idro in Milan who lived there since 26 years. They are Italian citizens, are living in peace in the neighborhood and send their children go regularly to school. They do not understand why they have to leave our homes, why their children have to lose the school, their belongings, their friends. After the eviction, Milan municipality will offer the containers at the Emergency Center where already families live that evicted from the slums.
Make Roma (NGOs) equal actors in the policies targeting them!
The situation of Roma in Europe is catastrophic. While dedicated efforts are urgently needed, we observe lack of a sense of urgency to forcefully invest in equal citizenship for Roma! Therefor we ask all relevant European Commission officials and prime ministers of Member States to take concrete measures in the next programming period (2014-2020) to break the status quo. We want them to carefully read the joint proposal: 'Measures Minimum Measures for Roma Participation in the EU and MS policy processes' (see: http://www.ergonetwork.org/ergo-network/news/) with concrete proposals for: - How to set the right mechanisms so that grassroots Roma can become actors in the process of change to alter their own situation - How to recognize and involve Roma expertise by setting up mechanisms for regular and transparent dialogue with Roma civil society and experts - How to invest in the capacity and strategic development of Roma civil society by setting up targeted funding for Roma and Roma initiatives Sign the petition and the letter below will be send to 20 EU representatives and 27 prime ministers!
