Protect our local Public Services
Petition calling on Kate Forbes to end cuts to East Lothian Council's funding. East Lothian Council has made savings of £34m over the past six years. As one of the fastest growing Councils in Scotland with rising demand for local services, we cannot make any further cuts to our budget without it having an impact on services. The most recent budget set by Scottish Government means further cuts of £16m. This is now a wholly unacceptable and unsustainable position for the Council to be placed in. We want the Scottish Government to end their austerity cuts and fund East Lothian Council fairly. We call on Kate Forbes to ensure vital local services in East Lothian are protected by: Stopping the funding cuts & funding us fairly to provide local public services, Fully funding all pay & pension increases; and Fully funding all new policies and legislation impacting on councils.
GP Surgery for Wallyford and Whitecraig
The populations of Wallyford and Whitecraig are growing rapidly but the villages currently have no local GP surgery. We are calling for a new GP Surgery in Wallyford to serve both communities and also relieve the pressure on the existing practice in Musselburgh. Other similar sized communities have their own GP surgery and we believe it is time for the Scottish Government and NHS Lothian to deliver one in Wallyford.
Hands off Cockenzie - Let East Lothian Decide
The SNP Government have called in the planning application for a substation on the former Cockenzie power station site so that ministers will make the decision, rather than local councillors. We believe that decisions on the site's future are best made locally and demand that the planning minister lets East Lothian decide by reversing the call-in and returning control to local councillors and communities.
