Keep Pauline’s politics out of Aus Post: Stand Down Christine Holgate
In the middle of the shocking lockdown of North Melbourne public housing this July, another serious abuse of power was taking place: Australia Post chief executive Christine Holgate threatened to call police unless the City of Melbourne delivered more than 100 of Pauline Hanson's One Nation-branded stubby holders to every apartment in a locked-down suburban public housing tower in July. Ms Holgate's written ultimatum...came days after Senator Hanson had labelled residents of the Melbourne towers "drug addicts" and "alcoholics", and at the same time Australia Post was attempting to win over One Nation's vote to ensure a temporary relaxation in daily postal services was not overturned by the Senate.* Australia Post is a government-owned business. Christine Holgate has serious questions to answer as to how she lobbied on behalf of Pauline Hanson for political gain. Until a full and frank investigation takes place, Christine Holgate must stand down from her role as chief executive of Australia Post. The events surrounding the lockdown of the North Melbourne public housing towers were already a gross abuse of state power and a total overreach. Residents were subjected to dehumanising treatment, traumatic over-policing, and a denial of their rights. And when so many of the residents are Muslim, refugees, black, and Aboriginal, it’s a pretty sick joke to for Senator Hanson to troll them with One Nation propaganda. In this highly-charged environment, it’s no surprise Pauline Hanson’s grubby stunt was intercepted by City of Melbourne officials. This was not campaigning material, it was an ugly attempt to dehumanise these tower residents. Ironically, Christine Holgate personally intervening to demand the residents be handed Senator Hanson’s offensive stubby holders does not pass the pub test. Especially when she was personally lobbying Senator Hanson for political gain. Australia Post cannot and should not be politicised in this way. Chief executive Christine Holgate must stand down. Please, sign and share this petition and stand up against this ugly abuse of power. * "Australia Post, Pauline Hanson and the locked down public housing tower" - Sydney Morning Herald, 10.09.20
Keep safe from a second-wave: extend healthcare to everyone
My name is Phuong and I’ve been calling Australia my home for many years but right now, I’m afraid. I have developed a cold and want to follow current health guidelines and get checked for COVID19. However, I’m on a temporary visa status. If I go to my doctor I risk my information getting shared to immigration agencies and thus being deported back to my homeland where it’s dangerous for me. I don’t want to put the life of others around me in danger. I’m left in an impossible situation and feel so helpless. Australia is my home. It’s where my beautiful daughter was born. I have spent years creating a tight-knit community of friends and family and they are my everything. I don’t want to lose all this just for following health guidelines and accessing healthcare. Unfortunately, Phuong’s story is not unique. Tens of thousands of people are afraid to access vital medical care, due to their visa status and fear of deportation. COVID-19 has exposed the glaring inequality in Australia around access to healthcare. Everybody deserves to be able to see a doctor without any fears. This is why we are calling for an information firewall between health providers and immigration agencies. Please help Phuong and others like him to be able to do their part in protecting their families and the community at large. They deserve to access healthcare without being punished for something as trivial as a visa status - something they have no control over. Please sign and share the petition calling for an information firewall between health providers and immigration agencies so we can prevent a second wave of COVID-19 and build a more inclusive society.
