Save the Brockville Police Service
Brockville Police photo of Cops Care for Kids fund-raiser. City council will decide by year's end or early 2017 whether or not to discard our historic Brockville Police Service (BPS) in favour of a takeover by the Ontario Provincial Police. It would take just five of nine council members to do it, with the result that our community would be left without its own police service for the first time since its founding in 1832. The typical OPP municipal service is an integrated model, meaning Brockville would be part of the OPP's county regional coverage, rather than have its own department. The Citizens Offering Police Support (COPS) Brockville committee believes that would mean less policing compared to our BPS, which currently has 40 uniformed officers and 17 civilian staff, local jobs, many of which could be lost to Smiths Falls and other OPP centres. COPS is a group of local citizens dedicated to saving the BPS and approximately 2,400 local residents have signed our petitions telling city council to keep the BPS. Please join us and sign this online petition to tell city council that the Brockville Police Service is still the best option for our community.
