Save the National Holocaust Memorial in Westminster

Help SAVE the national Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre in Victoria Tower Gardens, Westminster, which is currently being strongly opposed.Britain's new national memorial to the Holocaust could be stopped IF WE FAIL TO ACT before the end of March. A vital education centre for the next generation would be lost if campaigners against the plans are successful. We live in a time of rising anti-Semitism in Britain with an increasing number of people who have never heard about the Holocaust. We must educate future generations and preserve the lessons of history.Britain played an important role in bringing about an end to the Holocaust, the worst genocide in history. Therefore, it is right for our nation to have a permanent memorial to the Holocaust and learning centre in the heart of our capital.Unbelievably, there is now opposition to this worthy cause. Thousands have signed a petition to OPPOSE this memorial, and hundreds have written to the council to complain about it.Many are being misled into believing this memorial will destroy a green space in London. This is simply wrong! The memorial uses just 7% of the park with the education centre being underground. The large green space will still be available for the public and the trees that line the park will remain untouched. Tourists will even have BETTER views of Parliament because of an elevated grassy area on top of the memorial. The UK Holocaust Memorial Foundation states: "The proposals have been developed with great sensitivity to the existing context and character of the Gardens – we will retain 93 per cent of the open public space, improve views over Parliament and the river Thames and provide a range of accessible seating and a new boardwalk along the embankment."The questions to those who oppose this construction on an environmental level are: Is 7% of Victoria Tower Gardens worth more than honouring the 6 million Jews who were brutally murdered during the Holocaust? Is preserving a small part of a green space worth more than educating future generations against the hatred of anti-Semitism?Shamefully, some of the opposition to this memorial appears to be far more sinister.Whilst many genuinely oppose the construction without any discriminatory motives, CUFI has seen evidence of anti-Semitism from some opponents. This includes conspiracy theories about Jews trying to claim the site and impose their will on the government, which is completely false. Others oppose the monument because of “politics” or even “Palestine”, which should not even be a factor. One conspiracy seen by CUFI claimed the memorial was to spread “Zionist propaganda”. Some of the wording chosen to oppose the memorial also raises questions. It is not political to honour the memory of those murdered in the Holocaust. It is the right thing to do. And this memorial will honour their memory and teach future generations. The truth is that six million Jews were murdered at the hands of Hitler’s Nazi regime throughout Europe and hundreds of thousands of British and Commonwealth soldiers also lost their lives fighting against that same hatred. The position of the memorial is also important. Parliament was the stage for British leaders to proclaim their opposition to Nazi Germany and rally the nation against this hatred. For example, in the House of Lords, Archbishop William Temple spoke of the “massacres and starvation” of the Jews by the Nazis. He gave a powerful speech saying, “We at this moment have upon us a tremendous responsibility. We stand at the bar of history, of humanity and of God.”We once again have a tremendous responsibility to stand against anti-Semitism.Today, few people remain who remember those darkest days in history and there are signs that our nation is forgetting the horrors of the past, which is why we must support initiatives like this. Recent reports show a growing number of people in this country, especially the younger generation, who know “nothing” or “very little” about the Holocaust. And 64% of the country does not know the number of people killed in the Holocaust. On top of this, 5% of the country don’t believe the Holocaust happened at all, with a further 8% thinking it is exaggerated. We have to educate people with the truth!Anti-Semitism in Britain has increased in recent years with 2018 having the highest number of anti-Semitic attacks on Jews in this country than ever before. And with recent problems of anti-Semitism within the Labour Party, Parliament itself has a huge responsibility to lead by example in confronting anti-Semitism.This memorial is an important tool to educate future generations against the horrors of the Holocaust.Thankfully, the memorial is supported by many. Plans for the memorial were first announced by former Prime Minister David Cameron in 2016. It has the backing of every major Jewish organisation in the UK and over 170 politicians from across political parties support the plans. The government’s Holocaust Memorial Foundation, which is spearheading this development states: “Situated next to Parliament, the Memorial will stand as a permanent reminder of the responsibilities of citizens in a democracy to be vigilant and responsive whenever our values are threatened.”Their Mission Statement vows that “the national Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre will reaffirm Britain’s commitment to stand up against antisemitism, prejudice and hatred in all its forms.”The vast majority of people in the UK see the importance of Holocaust education with 86% of those polled said it was important to teach Holocaust in schools and 76% said more should be done to educate people. This memorial and education centre does just that! This is why we support the construction of the national Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre in Victoria Tower Gardens, Westminster.By signing this petition you are giving your support for this vital project and standing against anti-Semitism in Britain.

FIFA: “Kick out” Chairman of Palestinian FA for targeting Messi and inciting threats

We call upon FIFA to “kick out” Jibril Rajoub, the Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association (PFA) and take action against the PFA after Rajoub deliberately called for people to target Lionel Messi, resulting in threats of violence against him and the Argentinian team. Rajoub made his threats as he objected to a friendly match between Israel and Argentina that was supposed to take place on Saturday, 9 June, but has been cancelled due to the threats of violence. On 3 June 2018, Jibril Rajoub said in a TV interview, “Starting from today we [the PFA] will start a campaign against the Argentinian [Football] Association... we will target Messi and will demand that everyone burn their [Messi] shirts and pictures and renounce him”. In another TV interview, Rajoub speaks in English and warns Messi, "Don't come... you will lose fans all over the world." Rajoub’s comments incited a torrent of online abuse, including threats of physical violence against an individual player, Lionel Messi, and his family, as well as his team-mates and staff of the Argentinian football team. This behaviour from the head of a Football Association is NOT ACCEPTABLE! On top of this, protests incited by the PFA campaign took place outside the Argentinian training camp in Spain, holding team shirts splatted in red paint (to look like blood) in order to intimidate the team. All of these protests went beyond the boundaries of what FIFA should view as acceptable, and yet all of these were condoned, endorsed and supported by the Jibril Rajoub and the Palestinian FA. These threats were enough for Argentina to cancel their game against Israel with the head of the Argentinian FA stating that "the threats that have occurred have led us to take the decision not to travel." To add insult to injury, Jibril Rajoub, after incited hatred and threats against Messi and his teammates, had the nerve to hold a press conference and thank Argentina and Messi. No team should be intimidated or threatened for playing a game of football against another country and FIFA should do all it can to protect its players and teams from this kind of behaviour in the future. Israel has the right to play football against any country, and every country has the right to play against Israel. Likewise, every Football Association that is connected with FIFA should be required to keep politics out of football. They must agree to the standards of FIFA that allows all teams from all countries to play together freely without discrimination, threats or racist abuse. This is not the first time the Palestinian FA or Jibril Rajoub have used their position to launch political attacks against Israel. Last year FIFA President Gianni Infantino sent UN Secretary-General António Guterres a letter saying that FIFA is tired of dealing with political issues, stating “We are not a playground for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.” Once again, Jibril Rajoub and the Palestinian Football Association have used their position to score political points against Israel. This time, however, they have stirred up hatred and endangered the lives of players. The actions of Jibril Rajoub and the Palestinian FA have brought FIFA into disrepute and cast a shadow over “the beautiful game” of football that should be open to all. We the undersigned call upon you, FIFA, to kick Jibril Rajoub out of the Palestinian FA and to take swift and robust action against the Palestinian FA for their continued abusive behaviour. They must not be allowed to continuing acting this way. FIFA - You must protect teams and players from these threats. Kick politics and hatred out of football!

UK must recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital - move the embassy

We call upon the UK Government to officially recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Britain claims to treat both sides equally in the Israel-Palestinian conflict, however there is a shocking bias against Israel when it comes to Jerusalem. You see, the UK representative to Israel is in Tel Aviv, Israel’s second city. However, the UK representative to the Palestinians is in Jerusalem. That’s right, the UK government is indulging the Palestinian’s claim to Jerusalem whilst actively disregarding Israel’s right to Jerusalem. It is time to end this shocking double-standard! Recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital is not a barrier to peace as some claim. Instead, accepting reality is the first step in working towards peace. The reality is that Jerusalem is already the capital of Israel. It has been the capital for the Jewish people for over 3,000 years and for the State of Israel for nearly 70 years. It is where Israel has chosen to place its government and parliament and where British government ministers gather on official visits. And, as Israel’s capital, it is the only capital city in the Middle East where all peoples can live with full religious freedom under Israeli law. This will not change. The UK government recognises the legitimacy of the State of Israel yet denies Israel the right of self-determining its capital. No other sovereign nation would accept being told where to locate its own capital. Furthermore, by not recognising that Israel has the right to determine its capital, Britain is complicit with those that seek to delegitimise the existence of the Jewish State and deny the Jewish connection to Jerusalem. We realise moving the embassy would be a bold and courageous move in the current geo-political climate. However, many nations are being intimidated from doing the right thing because of the threats and violent anger by those who oppose Israel. By forming foreign policy in response to these threats, the UK government is turning its back on our cherished ally, Israel. In 1917 Britain lead the way and recognised the need for the Jewish people to have a national home of their own in the land of Israel.  One hundred years later, Britain must recognise the reality of Jerusalem as the capital of that nation. Now is the time for the United Kingdom to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and relocate it's embassy.

STOP Islamic extremist sheikh from entering UK and visiting Parliament

The former Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, a terrorist-supporting, Holocaust-denying anti-Semite who has called for the destruction of Britain will meet MPs in the UK Parliament this September. We call upon the UK Government to ban Sheikh Ekrima Sabri from entering the UK and not be allowed to attend Parliament as planned. According to an email seen by CUFI that was sent to MPs, pro-Palestinian group, EuroPal, will be leading a delegation from Jerusalem between 11-15 September and includes Sheikh Ekrima Sabri (also known as Ikrima al-Sabri), who was Grand Mufti from 1994 to 2006. The purpose of the visit is to discuss the “recent escalation in Jerusalem”. Appointed by Yasser Arafat, Sabri was removed by Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas over his increasing extreme views. He was also banned from entering France in 2012. Here is an example of some of his hate speech: In 2001, Sabri stated in a sermon on PA Radio,  "Allah, destroy the U.S., its helpers and its agents. Allah, destroy Britain, its helpers and its agents. Allah, prepare those who will unite the Muslims and march in the steps of Saladin. Allah, we ask you for forgiveness before death, and mercy and forgiveness after death. Allah, grant victory to Islam and the Muslims…"  Sheikh Sabri has also praised martyrdom in his sermons. In a sermon on Palestinian television in 2001 he said, "The Muslim loves death and [strives for] martyrdom. He does not fear the oppression of the arrogant or the weapons of the blood-letters. The blessed and sacred soil of Palestine has vomited all the invaders and all the colonialists throughout history and it will soon vomit, with Allah's help, the [present] occupiers." In support of child martyrs, he said, " There is no doubt that a child [martyr] suggests that the new generation will carry on the mission with determination. The younger the martyr - the greater and the more I respect him… They [mothers of martyrs] willingly sacrifice their offspring for the sake of freedom." On Jews he has said, "I enter the mosque of Al-Aqsa with my head up and at the same time I am filled with rage toward the Jews. I have never greeted a Jew when I came near one. I never will. They cannot even dream that I will. The Jews do not dare to bother me, because they are the most cowardly creatures Allah has ever created…" In a 2000 interview with the Italian newspaper la Repubblica, Sabri responded to a question about the Holocaust by stating, “Six million Jews dead? No way, they were much fewer. Let’s stop with this fairytale exploited by Israel to capture international solidarity. It is not my fault if Hitler hated Jews, indeed they were hated a little everywhere. Instead, it is necessary to denounce the unjust occupation endured by my people.” And in a New York Times magazine interview with Jeffrey Goldberg, he said “If the Jews want peace, they will stay away from Al Aksa...This is a decree from God. The Haram al-Sharif belongs to the Muslim. But we know the Jew is planning on destroying the Haram. The Jew will get the Christian to do his work for him. This is the way of the Jews. This is the way Satan manifests himself. The majority of the Jews want to destroy the mosque. They are preparing this as we speak.”The email from EuroPal to MPs suggests that the delegation wants to “promote dialogue and a better understanding of the Palestinian narrative” with the aim to "achieve justice and true peace in the Middle East.” CUFI is partnering with Israel Britain Alliance in contacting every MP questioning the appropriateness of allowing the former Mufti into the Palace of Westminster. All MPs have also been sent a Timeline of Temple Mount Tensions, provided by CUFI. If the UK Government wants to take a proactive approach to countering terrorism and incitement to hate, then it must BAN Sheikh Ekrima Sabri from entering the UK and NOT allow him to attend Parliament as planned. Please add YOUR name to this petition and share with others to show your support to BAN Sheikh Sabri from the UK. #bansabri

Ban Hezbollah in the UK in its entirety

Hezbollah is a Lebanese-based terrorist organisation banned throughout the world, including by the Arab League, United States, France and Israel, but not in the UK. This must change! Britain has only banned its "military" arm but not its "political" wing meaning there is a legal loophole that is currently allowing support for the organisation to grow. However Hezbollah, by its own admission, does not differentiate between its political and military wings. The flag, which features an assault rifle, is used for both. There is no difference! Hezbollah should be banned in the UK entirely. Hezbollah calls for Islamist revolution around the world, has carried out terror attacks for over 30 years, and calls for the “liberation of Jerusalem” and for the destruction of Israel. Backed by Iran, it has tens of thousands of rockets that can reach every city in Israel. Hezbollah is an anti-Israel, anti-West organisation that should NOT be allowed in Britain, yet on Sunday 18 June its supporters marched through central London flying Hezbollah flags. Organisers used the legal loophole to encourage protesters to carry the flag at the Al Quds march, which is an annual day created to call for the destruction of Israel.  Enough is enough. If Britain is to genuinely say "no to terror" then all terrorist organisations must be banned without compromise. Following the Arab League and United States in proscribing Hezbollah is one simple step that the UK Government can take in ensuring that extremism will not be tolerated in this country. Therefore, we call upon the UK Government to ban Hezbollah in the UK in its entirety.

We call upon UNESCO to recognise the Judeo-Christian roots of Jerusalem's Holy Sites

On 13th October 2016, UNESCO members passed a resolution that focused on some of the Holy Sites of Jerusalem. As a result, UNESCO will only refer to the Temple Mount complex by Islamic names (Al-Aqsa Mosque and Haram al-Sharif) and no longer use other names in Hebrew and English (Har HaBayit or Temple Mount). The resolution effectively divorces the history of the Jewish people from their most holy sites. The Temple Mount has been a holy place to the Jewish people for more than 3,000 years and to deny this fact is an insult to both Jews and Christians. Whenever ISIS (Daesh) destroys an historic site in an attempt to eradicate its history, the world rightfully condemns. Why therefore has UNESCO, a body created to protect cultural heritage, allowed an action to take place that denies the heritage of Judaism and Christianity? The vote goes against UNESCO's mission statement of “bringing peace to the minds of men and women”. Instead of documenting history, this vote attempts to erase the facts of history. Instead of promoting cultural and religious understanding, this vote divides cultures and restricts religious freedoms. Instead of bringing about peace in the region, this vote does nothing towards furthering peace and only brings greater division. Historical fact cannot be erased by a vote. And no religion's history should be denied because of political or religious motivations. We, the undersigned, demand that you reinstate the Hebrew and English names for the Temple Mount and Western Wall and recognise once again the significant history of Judaism and Christianity to their most holy sites. The Judeo-Christian roots of the Temple Mount will NOT be erased by a vote at UNESCO. This petition was started by Christians United for Israel UK
