It’s time for real compensation for delayed and cancelled flights

Not getting off the ground in time can cost you time; and for frequent flyers - and the stats don’t look good. CHOICE found that cancelled and delayed flights are a reality for over 20% of Aussie travellers. There’s no simple and easy compensation process if you’ve experienced an inconvenience at the fault of the airlines. Each airline has their own policy and what’s more, they’re not obliged to assist their customers. It’s time the airlines have a fair and simple compensation scheme for delayed or cancelled flights. Claiming back the costs of the delay or cancellation can be tricky - hotels, expensive airport food and transport can all be pricey and travellers face a lengthy claim process with their travel insurer, business or through limited assistance from the airline. Europe, New Zealand and even Indonesia all have compensation schemes in place for when the airlines don’t get you to your destination on time. Come on Australia, it’s time for decent compensation for travellers.

It’s time for real compensation for delayed and cancelled flights

Imagine getting ready to jetset away on a holiday you’ve been planning with friends, only to find you’ve lost a day because your flight didn’t take off on time? Well, it’s not as uncommon as you think. CHOICE found that cancelled and delayed flights are a reality for over 20% of Aussie travellers. Delayed and cancelled flights can cost you precious holiday time, especially if you’re relying on connecting, late night or early morning flights. Nobody likes to sleep in an airport wondering when they’ll catch the next flight out which is why we think the airlines should have to compensate you when something goes wrong - and it’s their fault. There’s no simple and easy compensation process if you’ve been dudded by the airlines. Each airline has their own policy and what’s more, they’re not obliged to give you any compensation You’re also in for an uphill battle if you want to claim back the costs of the delay or cancellation - hotels, expensive airport food and transport can all be pricey and you face a lengthy claim process with your travel insurer or limited options on what assistance you received from the airline. Europe, New Zealand and even Indonesia all have compensation schemes in place for when they don’t get you to your destination on time. Come on Australia, it’s time for decent compensation for travellers.

Boycott bad free range eggs

The government has decided on new rules for free range egg labels that fail consumers. Their proposed information standard allows egg producers stocking at 10,000 hens per hectare to call themselves free range. Their proposed standard does not require that chickens are outdoors. This is not good enough. If the government won't deliver a free range egg standard that meets consumers' expectations, then we need to take matters into our own hands. Eggs that come from chickens that don’t go outside and have high stocking densities don’t meet consumers’ expectations and don’t deserve the free range label. Join CHOICE's campaign and pledge to boycott bad eggs that have an outdoor stocking density of up to 10,000 hens per hectare.
