Putting a CRV on Small Liquor Bottles will help reduce waste and blight!
Let's talk trash. I am president of the community association for Cherryland, a census-designated place (CDP) located in unincorporated Alameda County. Because littering and illegal dumping are rampant here, my colleagues and community members pick up a lot of garbage. The dumpster pictured above contains what we picked up in one afternoon in our community. One of the most common items we pick up are miniature plastic liquor bottles, followed closely by glass liquor containers of 375 mL and smaller. Things we rarely have to pick up are containers with a California Refund Value (CRV), because people will pick them up and redeem them for extra income. Since implementation of the California Beverage Container Recycling and Litter Reduction Act (AB 2020), California's beverage container recycling rates have increased significantly, from an overall 52% in 1988 to 85% in 2013. 18.2 billion containers are recycled in California each year. I would like the California State Assembly to amend AB 2020 to include liquor containers of 375 mL and smaller. Please support my efforts to get one more category of trash off the streets.
