Civil and human rights activist Bayard Rustin (1912-1987) was a proud Black gay man and an indispensable architect of the Civil Rights Movement, serving as a masterful organizer and strategist as well as an advisor to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. To honor Rustin's remarkable accomplishments, courage and his invaluable legacy, the National Black Justice Coalition, the A. Phillip Randolph Institute and the American Federation of Teachers have joined forces to host “A Tribute to Bayard Rustin and the 50th Anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington” to create national awareness of the invaluable contributions of the late Bayard Rustin.
