Open a Dog Park in Auburn, MA
This petition is to show support for a dog park in Auburn, MA to be funded with a grant (details below). A dog park in Auburn will allow dogs to receive the necessary exercise and socialization to live a great life! Likewise, it will benefit non-dog owners by keeping off-leash dogs under control, as there would be an outlet for group off-leash play to take place. What is a Dog Park? A dog park is a park for dogs to exercise and play off-leash in a controlled environment under the supervision of their owners. These parks have varying features, although they typically offer a 4' to 6' fence, separate double-gated entry and exit points, adequate drainage, benches for humans, shade for hot days, parking close to the site, water, tools to pick up and dispose of animal waste in covered trash cans, and regular maintenance and cleaning of the grounds. Dog parks may also offer wheel-chair access and a separate enclosure for small dogs. We view an Auburn dog park as a community project, in partnership with the Town of Auburn, designed to satisfy the needs of Auburn area dog-owners and non–dog owners alike. Impacts on Auburn Community Dog parks have a myriad of benefits besides for the dogs including increasing a sense of community, decreasing dog barking, decreasing crime, raising property values and more! There is a $250,000.00 Massachusetts grant available from the Stanton Foundation. Details about the grant can be found on the following web site, http://thestantonfoundation.org/ Currently Auburn residents need to travel to neighboring towns to enjoy a public dog park. Millbury, for example, recently worked on forming a dog park (without using tax dollars). Read about dog parks in central MA at http://www.telegram.com/article/20150408/NEWS/304089968 If the Town of Auburn Officials approves the idea of a Community Dog Park, we will move forward and establish a “Friends of Auburn Dog Park” 501C3 (Non Profit) Group. The purpose of this group will be to work in partnership with the Town of Auburn and the community to develop a beautiful, fenced in, well maintained dog park where well–behaved canine citizens can exercise off-leash in a clean, safe environment. This group will also be responsible for generating funds, which will be used for additional items not included in the construction of the park as well as continual maintenance of the park. Why a petition? The town administration started assessing potential sites, but the process was derailed due to valid concerns over one particular location. Instead of continuing their site assessments the town has stated there is not enough interest in a dog park. This petition is to demonstrate support for an Auburn Community Dog Park. Town residents will have ample opportunities to give feedback in the process and site location IF WE PROCEED! What you can do! PLEASE sign this petition in support of creating a dog park in Auburn, MA and share this exciting project with your neighbors. PLEASE add your address when signing as we imagine it will give this petition more weight.
