Walmart: it's time for paid leave equality
My name’s April, and I’m a part-time associate at Walmart. So when Walmart expanded paid family leave earlier this year — I was left out. I’m a mom to my wonderful foster daughter, Naomi. But while my full-time coworkers get 6 weeks paid leave to help settle a newly arrived child, 550,000 part-time associates like me don’t get any. In a few days, part-time associates are going to Walmart’s annual shareholder meeting to ask company executives and investors to provide paid family leave and better wages to all part-time employees. Will you support us? Add your name to show there’s overwhelming public and customer support for paid leave equality at Walmart. Some people think that being part-time is a choice, but for many of us, that's not true. I'd love to be full-time, but every request I've made for full hours is denied. Many of us wonder if Walmart keeps us part-time in order to deny us benefits. And Walmart isn't the only company leaving part-timers behind. In a recent analysis, PL+US found companies everywhere are leaving out part-time workers like me. When Walmart changes, other companies follow: they can lead the way by offering paid leave to part-time employees. Now is the perfect time! Walmart JUST changed its paid leave policy for full-time associates after pressure from associates and customers. So I know we can do it again. Sign my petition now — and let’s show everyone at the annual shareholder meeting it’s time for paid leave equality at Walmart. Let's win this! April LawWalmart associate and OUR Walmart member Petition Text To: Walmart CEO Doug McMillon and Walmart executives As one of the largest employers in the U.S. your family leave policies have an enormous impact on the lives of working families. Right now Walmart is treating part-time associates worse than full-time associates, denying part-time associates the time their families need and deserve when they need it most. Walmart showed it can be recognized as a leading employer when you expanded paid family leave for full-time associates. Creating paid leave equality will set that reputation in stone.
