Petitioning West Virginia Governor

We Have an Opportunity to Reduce WV’s Smoking Rates

Sadly, nearly 20% of WV high school students smoke and nearly 1,800 WV kids under 18 become new daily smokers each year. Additionally, more pregnant women smoke in WV than in any other state in the country. In fact, nearly 1 out of 3 women smoke while pregnant, causing lasting complications for their babies. We have an opportunity to change this! Lawmakers are considering options to increase revenue, and one option is to increase the tax on cigarettes--a proven method of reducing smoking, especially among price-sensitive youth. Urge WV’s Governor to increase the state’s tobacco tax—a health win and a revenue win--before time runs out before the special session! Tobacco tax increases are one of the most effective ways to reduce smoking and other tobacco use – especially among young people and pregnant women. In addition, every state that has significantly increased its cigarette tax has enjoyed substantial increases in revenue, even while reducing smoking. Let's not miss this opportunity to improve health while increasing much-needed revenue. Send your message now urging the Governor to increase the state’s tobacco tax by an additional $1!   Thank you!

Petitioning Kentucky State House

Say yes to CPR training for Kentucky students!

In as little as 30 minutes, we can teach Kentucky’s students hands-only CPR and how to save a life—what a great return on investment! Senate Bill 33, Kentucky’s CPR in Schools Bill, has passed the Senate and is awaiting action in the House. Please take a moment now to urge your representative to support CPR training for Kentucky’s students. In recent years, 28 states have passed CPR in Schools policies and several others are very close. As a result, more than 1.5 million students across the country will now learn lifesaving CPR each year. With the Senate vote in favor of Senate Bill 33, the bill has moved to the House of Representatives and Kentucky is one step closer to becoming next. Please urge your representative to vote YES on Senate Bill 33, lifesaving CPR in Schools legislation!

West Virginia: Stand up for smoke-free air in your favorite restaurants & venues

For the past few years, West Virginians like you have spoken out over and over again to help defeat several bills that would have weakened the indoor smoke-free regulations we’ve come to enjoy in our favorite restaurants and other establishments. Let’s continue to make it clear to lawmakers that we appreciate our smoke-free venues and want to keep them that way.   Unfortunately, we anticipate continued attempts to weaken smoke-free air in future legislative sessions. Please sign our petition to tell your elected officials to protect workers and the public from secondhand smoke by voting NO on ANY efforts to weaken smoke-free indoor air in West Virginia’s communities! Thank you!

Petitioning Ohio State House

Annually, 1.5 million students will be trained in CPR! Let's train Ohio students!

In the United States, 26 states now require CPR training prior to graduation.  These states will train 1.5 million potential lifesavers every year!  In as little as 30 minutes, we can teach students hands-only CPR and how to save a life—what a great return on investment! Take a moment now to urge Ohio legislators to support HB 113, which will provide CPR training for keystone state students.  Let’s be the next state to train students in CPR! There is strong support in the Ohio legislature for CPR training in schools and we have the potential to quickly pass this legislation.  However, we need to make sure HB 113 is a priority for the state legislators.  Help us urge for swift passage of this lifesaving legislation.  Let’s make Ohio the next state to train students in CPR.  In as little as 30 minutes, we can teach Ohio’s students hands-only CPR and how to save a life—what a great return on investment!
