Aberash Bekele with Truth Aid
Truth Aid was born out of the experience of physicians working to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS in the South Bronx. We came to realize that conversations about HIV prevention had to start with love, trust, identity, abuse, and support in order to make safe sex a reality. Our efforts to uncover this missing dialogue led us to create new strategies to teach about health and well being. Truth Aid has three operating units that are focused on media, outreach, and research respectively. OUR MISSION is to inspire social change by producing multimedia content that reveals underrepresented perspectives and combining it with thoughtful, engaging, outreach programming that is ultimately transformative. We believe the power of storytelling can change lives and empower communities to take action. Telling untold stories inspires and instructs in ways that create shared values and build on our common humanity. We believe this is a critical cultural intervention that can improve the way we live our lives in the 21st century.
