Allow Friditas to Support Animals and the Elderly in South San Francisco California
Friditas in South San Francisco in San Mateo County that started in 2015 to help dog rescue operations wants to start a pet taxi service in South San Francisco. The pet taxi service will benefit the community by offering taxi service for their dogs to vet and grooming appointments. Friditas would like to offer the service for free to elderly residents in the community and for a small fee to others. On April 13th I walked into the licensing area at the South San Francisco city hall to obtain a business license if needed to provide this service. The licensing area gave me a hard time and said I needed to speak to their planning department where I spoke with a technician in planning. I was treated in a rude manner and was told we needed to have inspections that would cost the company hundreds of dollars on a already inspected building that we house our Friditas.com online store that benefits rescue dogs. I did not feel helped at all. Why is it that I would need an inspection on a building that we would only use for bookkeeping purposes? A pet taxi service is to transport dogs from place to place! On April 14th I reached out to Alex Greenwood the economic and community development director for the city of south san francisco to ask for assistance with the matter and was told I would receive a response by the end of the day, which was never received. Since Friditas started we have received much opposition by the neighborhood in which we conduct business as a retail store. However our online sales and support across the country has been wonderful with thousands of customers buying from us and helping with our efforts to help rescue dogs. This is important to me because I deeply am concerned about dogs and the treatment of dogs in the community and simply want to help out. But instead feel like I am getting much opposition from the city hall! The petition is not to blame anyone but to bring awareness of a community member who is trying to help out and demonstrate the issues that arise from a local government when trying to obtain permits if necessary for this type of business. I already took out an insurance policy for transport for one million dollar coverage thinking that to obtain permission would not be that difficult. I don't know if it is a personal issue directed at me the founder or some other hatred or distaste for dogs in the community. When leaving comments for the petition please do not direct hate speech to the individuals I am petitioning but instead ask them to support Friditas efforts to offer a transport service to the community.
