Stop Taxing Our Periods! End the #TamponTax

While menstruation is a normal and healthy part of women's lives, in 40 states across the U.S. tampons, pads and menstrual cups are subject to sales tax as "non-essential" items.

A lifetime supply of these products -- approximately 17,000 tampons and pads per person -- will cost thousands of dollars.

In most states, items deemed a necessity -- like food, medicine, and clothing -- are exempt from sales tax. Yet menstrual products, essential for anyone who has a period, are not. How is this possible? How is this fair?

As President Obama recently said when asked about the tax, "I suspect it's because men were making the laws when those taxes were passed."

This is a tax imposed on women simply for being women, disproportionally impacts low income women, and it is time for it to end. Please join our movement and tell your state legislators that it is time to eliminate the #TamponTax!
