What is the driving force in what led you to Change.org?

I was already working with minority and women-owned small businesses, but I wanted to have a larger impact and range of issues. Change touches so many different types of campaigns and I wanted to be part of the movement that Change stands for.

What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day involves working with the team to decide which petitions are best to share with users interested in those topics. We watch the news closely throughout the day and email petitions that are timely and relevant. By the end of the day, I know I’ve done my job if I’ve made sure users can take part in something big.

What is one of the most memorable Change.org campaigns you’ve seen?

The most memorable was very personal to me: Don’t Mute DC. As an area native, it was incredible to see how quickly people mobilized around protecting a culture that I live every day. Things swelled so quickly that by the time I was driving home from work, crowds were so big I had to find a new route. And it won! A true example of the power of the people.

What does Black History Month mean to you?

Black History Month means a chance to shine a light on the contributions that people of African descent have had on the world. It’s a chance to celebrate our differences and similarities and to learn about histories and present-day movements and victories that people may not otherwise see.

What is one piece of advice you would give to people of color in the tech industry?

Be yourself. It sounds basic, but my career took off when I started living authentically and unapologetically — especially at work. We have a duty to ourselves to show up as we are, brilliance, background, experience, and all. 

What’s the last concert you went to?

The last concert I went to was Erykah Badu in Baltimore. She was amazing!
