Stop the "Wait Pool" system which blocks students from starting school

With their antiquated, restrictive "Wait Pool" system SFUSD prevents any student who is not assigned to a school (IE incoming Kindergarten, Middle and High School students) from starting school with the rest of the school population. Enrollment is sometimes delayed as long as three weeks. This means Students miss important events ("welcome to school", trying out for athletics, class and locker assignments), and jeopardizes key transition periods, which can determine future academic success. In addition parents of said "Wait Pooled" students most certainly have to lose time from work, or pay additional income for child care. This puts a burden on the family and the community at large. This is inexcusable, and there is no reason SFUSD can not reform their system so that all children can start school at the same time. Please join me in sending a message to the SFUSD that we as parents will no longer put up with this system.

This makes no sense, is contrary to the needs of students and can be fixed by taking into account the children.

We also started 10 days late after begging for a school assignment that was 5 blocks from our house.

My child went through the same thing and it is INTOLERABLE! SFUSD really needs to get it together, we as a city are sacrificing our children's education every day.

The district needs to be better at opening spots of kids that removed themselves from the schools in the prior year. A family at my school with twins pulled 1 child to go private at the end of the school year. Both the school and the district were made aware in the Spring but low and behold there was their child on the class list for the first day of school. That spot could have been given to another child at any point between May and the first day of school which would have made that child's transition easier and caused less stress for thier family. For all of the paperwork and wrangling that families have to go through why can't the EPC manage this simple removal process?

All students should have the right to experience the same opportunities in school--including starting at the same time.
