Stop Slaughtering Animals

    1. Pétition de

      Friends of Longstreet Farm Animals

The TRUTH about Longstreet Farm (LSF) Animals…

Every year, animals born at LSF are sold for slaughter. These animals are purposely bred so that the public can see babies. Yet, these same animals, who interact with the public, are sold and butchered. We have documentation from 2004 to now that backs up these statements.

Periodic chicken slaughtering and pig slaughtering workshops are held using these humanized animals. These are covert programs and not publicized nor included in the park brochure.  So why are they happening on a county-owned farm?

To purposely breed and raise human-friendly animals for the public, and then callously sell, trade  or demonstrate how they are slaughtered, is unacceptable.

LSF is NOT a private farm. It is a county-run farm. LSF belongs to the residents and taxpayers of Monmouth County.

This is NOT the 1800's. Nowadays, we teach children Compassion towards animals as a means to promoting Compassion towards people, as well.

Some people say “Just give them to a sanctuary.” This is NOT a solution. There are not enough homes or sanctuaries for farmed animals, and LSF will just continue to breed & buy more. The managers at LSF tell the public that they are “re-homing them”. What they don’t say is that these same animals that their kids are playing with will be killed at their new “home.”

FYI: Thru the years offers to adopt animals to responsible people are consistently declined. Although a home was offered to an affable male calf, he was sold and slaughtered & the $ used for the farms holiday party. When sanctuaries have offered to take an old animal, LSF management “conveniently”’ ignored them. This is because LSF PREFERS TO SELL  ANIMALS FOR SLAUGHTER.

Now the two mules, Gert and Ruth, are getting on, plus unless neutered, there will be new litters of piglets and lambs that will be "removed", chicks & pigs  raised for secret "dressing" aka slaughter workshops & so it continues...

The Solution:

-LSF should continue as a historic farm EXCEPT for the animals.

-LSF should no longer breed, buy, sell or trade any animal.

-LSF should stop their covert chicken & pig "dressing"/slaughter workshops

-Associated Humane Societies has offered to neuter male animals for free. Cows are not to be impregnated. The birds need a balanced flock of a few roosters to hens & be allowed outside the coop periodically to roam,  forage & perch.  Stop ordering chicks by mail  & then raising them for covert slaughter/"dressing" workshops.

-All animals there should be allowed to live out their lives at the farm and receive routine veterinary care.

LSF WORKERS DO NOT OWN THESE ANIMALS, WE DO.

To purposely breed and raise human-friendly, imprinted animals for public enjoyment and then callously sell, slaughter or trade them to be slaughtered, is unacceptable. This is 2013, NOT the 1800’s.

    2. BREEDING & SLAUGHTERING CONTINUES at LONGSTREET FARM

Please note that Longstreet Farm, a publicly owned park operating thanks to our tax dollars, continues to breed, buy, trade and slaughter the friendly, humanized, animals there on display. The Freeholders refuse to initiate any changes, the farm staff disregard any suggestions & we pay their salaries. What to do? Please continue to tell all your friends, family & co-workers the truth--that the animals you & your kids play with will be slaughtered. It is NOT a "working farm" it is a depiction of an old time farm. All we ask is that they allow those animals there to remain there in peace & stop breeding & buying more. When the animals pass away, get more from farmed sanctuaries. Stop using these sentient beings like disposable products to be used then discarded.

    3. LONGSTREET FARM BABY LAMBS & CHICKS DESTINED FOR SLAUGHTER

They were born & bought to be enjoyed by the visiting public but will be sent to slaughter at summer's end. They or their older siblings or other farmed animal friends will be used in the covert slaughtering workshops secretly held at the farm & or sent away to be butchered--for whose benefit? And all on taxpayer dollars....

    4. MONMOUTH COUNTY FREEHOLDERS=COVERT GOVERNMENT

MONMOUTH COUNTY FREEHOLDERS=COVERT GOVERNMENT The freeholders have yet again denied our request to be put on a meeting agenda even tho records show other groups have been put on the agenda in the recent past. Why this lack of transparency in government? Why do the Monmouth County Freeholders want to stifle the voices of Friends of Longstreet Farm Animals?

    5. Monmouth Government Misrepresents And Silences Residents

The Monmouth County Parks Department and Monmouth County Board of Recreation Commissioners issued a report grossly misrepresenting the position of Friends of Longstreet Farm Animals. Despite our requests, the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders has refused to give us a spot on a agenda to set the record straight. We simply want to respond to the October 10th report to correct misinformation about us, make specific requests for policy changes and present appropriate program enhancements.
Nowhere on the Longstreet Farm website does it state that the animals are slaughtered, that chickens are decapitated on the premises or that pigs are sent to 21st century slaughterhouses and their bodies returned to the farm for butchering workshops. These activities are kept covert and are not included in any Monmouth County Park publications. This, plus the Freeholders denying us a place on an agenda, is intentional suppression of the truth about Longstreet Farm animals.

    6. LONGSTREET TO KILL RESIDENT COW

Longstreet Farm is yet again treating their animals as disposable commodities. Myrtle, a cow living at this county-owned park, is slated for death.
Myrtle is supposedly sterile and arthritic. Even though she has served the visiting public as a living educational component, Longstreet management no longer want her there. She will be slaughtered rather than retired at this publicly-owned facility.
“So why not just find her a home?” Myrtle ALREADY has a home—Longstreet Farm. Just as with dogs and cats, there are not enough homes for farmed animals.
Contrary to popular belief, the animals at Longstreet Farm do NOT live out their lives at the facility. Longstreet managers continue to breed, buy, trade and sell animals they deem “no longer useful” or “too many”. These gentle, people-oriented animals are butchered by having their heads bolted, throats slit and or heads cut off.
Friends of Longstreet farm Animals is an ever-growing group of concerned Monmouth County and New Jersey resident

    8. Chicken & pig "dressing" aka slaughtering workshops covertly held at LSF

LSF managers both stated & an OPRA request revealed that periodic chicken & pig "dressing" aka slaughtering workshops, are held at LSF using young male chickens purchased for this use. Resident piglets or pigs are used. These are covert workshops/demonstrations. They are not publicized nor are they printed in the Monmouth County Parks brochure. Longstreet farm is a county-owned, not private farm. So why are they breeding, buying and slaughtering animals as they see fit?

    9. MALE CHICKS WILL BE SENT TO SLAUGHTER SOON

Longstreet Farm management specifically bought 25 chicks, 15 to be used in their chicken slaughter demo/workshop in mid-August. These workshops are conventiently never advertised by this publicly-owned facility, so for whose benefit are they? They now claim they are are not holding any slaughter workshops for the rest of 2012 & that these male chicks will be sold to a slaughterhouse. Our taxpayer dollars being wasted on needless purchase of living creatures only to be killed for no reason. See more on Facebook: Friends of Longstreet Farm Animals & Twitter AnimalsLSF@Twitter.com

    10. PIGLETS, INJURED CHICKENS SENT TO SLAUGHTER, MAYBE LAMBS TOO

Despite offers to neuter the male animals for free, Longstreet Farm sent these innocent animals that people interacted with, to slaughter. The injured birds never received care for their wounds. Now they plan using the chicks there for a chicken "dressing" aka "slaughtering" workshop in August. They have stated this is only for a "special few" . The general public is not informed of these slaugher workshops. Longstreet Farm does not include these workshops in their brochures. They admitted doing them with the pigs periodically too tho the pig is slaughtered off premises then butchered on. Covert activities using innocent animals & our tax dollars. Longstreet farm is NOT a "safe haven" for the animals as the public believes.

    11. KEEP LONGSTREET FARM HISTORIC, EXCEPT FOR THE ANIMALS

The farm is a nice place for the animals to live & for people to visit. All we are asking for is to provide vet care to ALL the animals, including any injured birds & to enable ALL the animals to live out their lives there in Peace. So why the resistance?

I am sick of animals being sent to a place of hell and torture when they could be happy in a place where they would eventually find there new home! It's just sickening to know what people do, why don't they be treated like that?

Humans are performing unnatural habits and traditions of killing other animals. We were born herbivores. Animals are just like us, we have no right to kill. If we are at the top of the food chain, then we should use our power for the well being of this earth and it's inhabitants. Someone needs to change this way of life that we have started. It needs to be destroyed immediately. The loss of jobs or income will be out weighed by the benefits and life's that are the outcome.
