Don't Deport Lazaro, Father of Four!

      Naples, FL

Lazaro was stopped on March 6th, 2012, for driving without a license, on his way back from the hospital where his son was being cared for. His partner, Maria, was in the car with their newborn baby daughter of 6 weeks and their 14 year old son. He has been in the country for 10 years and has worked hard to support their family of 4 children, all born in the United States. Lazaro has no record of criminal history.

Maria and the children are suffering. Maria is diabetic and any dietary change can affect her sugar levels. Because of this situation, she has not had an appetite and eats only to nurse her baby. Her three children have a void without their father figure. Although Lazaro is not their biological father, he has taken care of them like his own. Maria’s son, Eloy, sees him as an important part of his life and is simply distraught at the fact that he is detained. His emotional state has drastically changed over the last few days and is very worried about what can happen.

Maria will struggle financially to support her 4 children. Currently, she is not working and is already feeling the pressures of a one-income household. She will be forced to move to a smaller apartment due to the possible inability to pay this month’s rent. She doesn’t know what can happen and is scared that she won’t be able to provide for her older children as well as her newborn baby. Myelli, her six-week old baby, will be the most vulnerable if her father is deported.

Neither Maria, Lazaro nor their community want to see Myelli or her 3 other siblings suffer, but this will be a permanent reality if Lazaro is deported.

According to the memo issued by John Morton, Lazaro is not a priority for deportation and should be granted favorable exercise of prosecutorial discretion.

We urge you to stop the deportation of Lazaro Poblano Garcia!

Programs like Secure Communities cannot keep taking away our families any longer. We must see the end of Secure Communities because people like Lazaro are being caught in the dragnet.

Because the deportations are separating families and you have no idea of the sufferring and needs which leaves the deportations.

Because our law makers have failed in their responsibility to create a realistic, humane, and just immigration reform good people are being victimized. Where are those who talk of family values?
