Petition fundraiser

Help win a big anti-food waste fight in America by supporting my trip to Walmart’s HQ

This fundraiser has reached its goal.

$2,000 goal

My name is Jordan. I’m a zero waste expert and anti-food waste activist. I created a petition together with Culinary Nutritionist, Stefanie Sacks, MS, CNS, CDN and author of What The Fork Are You Eating?, asking Walmart to add “ugly” fruits and veggies to their aisles. Will you help us raise funds to send me to Bentonville, Arkansas to deliver the petition signatures to Walmart’s executives?

This is an important and effective campaign to fight food waste because our society throws away about 1/4 of all produce before it even reaches the grocery store.
This waste is due mostly to cosmetic standards from large grocers that dictate exactly how fruits and veggies should look.

Once the petition reaches 100,000 signatures, we have every intention of keeping the pressure going even stronger! Walmart, the largest grocer in the world, has told members of the media they are looking into the issue, but they are unwilling to return our calls and emails. That’s why we must do more! When I travel to their headquarters, our message will be impossible to ignore. It’s not cheap, though, so we need your help to make it happen.

Will you chip in $5 or more to help me cover the costs of this trip? I’m trying to raise $2,000.

Here’s what your donations will cover:
My flight to and from Bentonville, Arkansas where Walmart is headquartered,
-One night in a local hotel,
-Rental car and gas,
-Printing 100,000 signatures (double sided, on recycled paper),
-Boxes for the petition delivery,
-Banner for the petition delivery,
-Printing leaflets (double sided, recycled paper) to distribute around Bentonville, and
-Offering samples of “ugly” produce to members of the media and public around Bentonville.

Stefanie and I volunteer our time (and even personal funds) for this cause we care so deeply about. If there is any additional amount raised beyond the immediate needs of my trip, I assure you they will be used on our work to stop food waste.

I will report back on how it goes so stay tuned at my social media accounts @UglyFruitAndVeg on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and We Heart It! Thank you for your support. Even $5 will help so much!

And please feel free to reach out to me anytime you have questions.
