Violence Doesn't Discriminate. Tell the House to Pass Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) for All Women

VICTORY: The House voted in favor of the bipartisan Senate version of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) - the version that includes key protections for the LGBTQ community, Native American women and immigrant women. With many organizations, activists and legislators championing this cause, this success is surely part of a larger, more collaborative victory, but the more than 3,000 Change.org members that urged the U.S. House of Representatives that all women deserve to be protected from violence, surely had an impact.

On Feb. 12, 2013, the Senate, with a huge majority - 78 to 22 - passed a version of the Violence Against Women Act that includes protections for members of the LGBTQ community, immigrant women and Native American women. Now it goes to the House of Representatives, where the minority leaders have introduced their own bill that strips some of these protections. Women’s lives are at stake.

Together, we must make sure that all women are protected from violence. Stop playing politics with women’s lives. No more delays! The bipartisan Senate version of the Violence Against Women Act must pass.

    2. We Did It - VAWA Passes

The bipartisan Senate version of VAWA just passed the House.

Thank you so much for signing our petition and sharing the video. We are so happy that you helped us pass a VAWA that includes all women. Now keep sharing this parody of Taylor Swift's "22" and tell the politicians who voted against protecting women what we think about them!

    4. VAWA vote as early as Thursday

It looks like the House will take up the issue of VAWA on Thursday. However, they will first introduce the House version of the bill - which does not include protections for LBGTQ, Native American, and immigrant women survivors of violence.

We have to keep the pressure on! We must make sure that House leaders know we do not support this watered down version of the bill. Share this petition and tell House leaders to pass the bipartisan Senate version of the bill.

No woman should fear the act of violence. Too many innocent victims, while the predators go unpunished.

All people need equal protection from violence of all kinds, especially woman and girls who have been discriminated against even here in America, which is supposed to be the home of the brave and the land of the free. Those who are violent against women are not brave, and those who are discriminated against are not free.

Violence against women or men of any race, sexuality has to be stopped by federal law and considered hate crime!
