Urge Prime Minister David Cameron to give us a slavery free guarantee

In October 2012, 30 Lithuanian men were recruited to move to the UK for jobs on chicken farms. When they arrived, they learned the jobs meant working 17 hours per day and threats of physical violence if they didn't meet expectations. They weren't paid. They weren't allowed to leave. They were caught in the nightmare of modern slavery in one of the wealthiest nations in the world.

Thankfully, the men were rescued in October but there's another layer to this disturbing crime - we may have been a part of it. That's because the farms these men laboured on supplied eggs to McDonald’s, Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and possibly to you.

We can make sure companies are required to disclose information about how they are protecting our right to buy products free from slavery through the passage of the Transparency in UK Company Supply Chains Bill (TISCUK). On 18 January 2013, TISCUK will be re-introduced to the Parliament, after failing to get a fair hearing in 2012.

Please sign the petition urging Prime Minister David Cameron to show international leadership and ensure TISCUK is supported by the UK Government.

Para:
Prime Minister David Cameron
I urge you and your government to support the Transparency Bill on 18 January 2013 when it is reintroduced to Parliament. Please keep your word and ensure that the UK is an international leader in the fight against modern slavery. We don’t want slavery in our shopping trolleys.

Atentamente,

How can we claim to be a democratic country when basic human rights are not upheld? The perpetrators of this crime are disgusting, but worse still would be a government who turned a blind eye.

Slavery has cursed so many millions of people, I don't want it to ever touch me or the people I love

It is horrific that slavery is a modern issue. Government need to play their part in exposing this reality to consumers and to ensure supply and product chains are slave free.
