The Flea Market Will Continue
The Flea Market at Eastern Market announces that it expects to continue in business as its site at Hine School on Capitol Hill is redeveloped.
Diverse Markets Management, the flea market owner, announced a recently-executed license agreement with the District of Columbia to continue the market on a closed 7th Street SE, along side the school redevelopment. The two-year license incorporates a Mayor's order for the street closure on weekends and a Public Space permit for the market operation beginning August 1, 2013. "The license pretty much concludes a two-year effort, including an intense "Save the Flea Market" campaign last summer, to secure our future," said DMM President Michael Berman.
DMM also has an agreement to negotiate with the developer to move the market back to the private development when construction is completed, And Berman is optimistic that the negotiations will be concluded by July.
“We look forward to keeping the market going."
