Keep Wal Mart out of Hillsboro

A large number of citizens of Hillsboro strongly believe that Wal-Mart's business philosophy is not compatible with the standard of living we enjoy here and that its business practices are at odds with multiple aspects of Hillsboro's 2020 Vision and Action Plan for a sustainable future, including maintaining Hillsboro's small-town livability and its continued sense of place.

Wal-Mart can wreck our burgeoning Hillsboro economy by sending millions out of state and relying on tax payers to make up the difference for their low wage workers.

Wal-Mart in Hillsboro will limit the town's ability to grow as a community. Wal-Mart is notorious for killing small businesses by lowering their prices to levels that can't be competed with and paying their employees embarrassingly low wages with limited opportunity for advancement. WE already have a Fred Meyer store in the area, a Northwest started business that exemplifies the positive qualities a large business should aspire...positive work environments, quality products and opportunities for their employees. We should be trying to foster community in Hillsboro, not inhibit small business and foster the feelings of anonymity and isolation the culture of big box stores bring to a neighborhood!
