Tell the Secretary of Defense: Military Dogs Are Veterans, Not Equipment

    1. Petition by

      Save-A-Vet

These dogs lay their life on the line in protecting our troops every day. They have saved thousands of soldiers' lives on the battlefield, and often continue to serve as companions to wounded veterans when they get home. Members of the armed services and the general public all agree -- the heroic Military Working Dogs that serve alongside our troops (and often, ahead of them) are veterans, not equipment.

Mans Best Friend has always been an unsung hero. Why not acknowledge when mans best friend really is a Hero. Dogs do not get to vote, nor can they speak English but they risk their lives for OUR Beliefs and Our Approval.

I served in and retired from the Army. These dogs serve and should be protected the same as I have been. Fix this!!!!!!!!!

Military working dogs work in the same combat zones and endure the same, if not worse, stressors. They have saved many lives in Iraq & Afghanistan and should be treated as veterans, not property of the DOD.

I believe that animals are our responsibility. They depend on us to take care of them. Especially when they are serving in a foreign land. They deserve our respect as much as the human military vets.

If they are used to find mines and save our troops, why would we class these dogs as equipment and abandon them as trash?
