Tell Congress to Respect the Supreme Court's Decision on Habeas

    1. Petition by

      Amnesty International USA

In a crushing blow to the Bush Administration, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled today that Guantánamo detainees have a right to challenge their detention before a legitimate court.

The court's decision is a stark indictment of wrongdoing at Guantánamo.

Still, the decision will not close Guantánamo. It will not keep the administration from transferring detainees to countries known for torture. And it will not stop the Bush administration from finding ways to circumvent the law.

Now Congress must listen.

The last time the Supreme Court ruled that detainees have the right to habeas corpus, Congress turned around and passed the Military Commissions Act in an effort to strip that right away.

Don’t let Congress trample on justice again. Call on your Members of Congress to respect the Supreme Court’s decision, and respect justice.
