"I am seeing more hungry kids than ever before and I am spending more and more to try to put a band-aid on the problem."
- Maryland teacher
Breakfast is the most important meal, but too many children in America start their school day hungry. Some families can't provide a healthy breakfast every morning due to food budgets or challenges with work schedules and transportation. Whatever the reason, missing breakfast hurts kids.
Studies show that children who miss breakfast have slower memory recall, make more errors and are more likely to be absent or tardy and to repeat a grade. Eating breakfast helps children perform better academically, reduces behavioral problems in class, and sets the stage for healthy eating for life.
We need your help to make sure every child has the breakfast they need to feel better, learn better and reach their full potential. Join the No Kid Hungry campaign and help schools adopt innovative ways to overcome the barriers and ensure that children in need have access to breakfast.
Take the pledge today and support critical efforts to connect kids to breakfast in their public schools.
