We love our iPhones, but Apple's decision to roll out an inferior maps app with the release of iOS6 has ruined one of their users' most popular features.
Recently, Apple replaced Google’s map application on the iPhone 5 (and the iOS6 operating system) with an Apple-produced map app for its new operating system. Apple's maps app provides much less detail and information than the previous Google map app -- one of the most-used functions for many smart phone owners.
It's not right that Apple customers who upgrade get a worse product and service for our money -- especially when the Google Maps app is so superior. That's why I started this petition asking Google to develop a new maps app for the iPhone 5 and iOS6. Will you sign it?
I'm a student who just transferred to one of the largest college campuses in the country. The Google map app on my iPhone has proved to be an essential resource and provided me with plenty of peace of mind during those first few weeks of school. It not only included the names of each of the buildings on campus but all of the walking paths and bike trails that allowed me to get all the way across campus in 15 minutes. Apple’s new maps app by contrast has only a dim grey outline for the majority of buildings and the location of the Chick-Fil-A on campus. It's just not even close to as useful.
Apple's new maps app is just no replacement for Google Maps. Likewise, the mobile browser version of Google Maps is nowhere near as comprehensive as the previous iPhone app.
Will you join me to encourage Google to introduce an independent, standalone app to the iOS App Store so that loyal users of Google Maps can continue to enjoy accurate directions, street-views of locations, and its many other features? Please bring Google Maps back to our iPhones!
