Victory

From Petition Creator: In January we sent out a petition telling supporters about Ms. Thelma Gooch, a 78-year-old woman who had lived in her Oakland home for 38 years but was scammed out of it. We told our supporters that the real estate agent wanted her out in 15 days with no compensation. We want to let you know that Ms. Gooch has completed her sorting, purging and packing process and is now living with her daughter and granddaughters. She is taking some time to assess what the next steps will be. Because of the pressure Francisco Ho and FAS Realty faced from all the emails and calls, she received the balance of what was due to her from the sale of her home; she also got a strong, negotiated settlement with the new owner that included money for storage and moving, and several months to finish packing, as well as additional funds to compensate for her loss. Ms. Gooch is grateful for the tremendous outpouring of support that forced Francis Ho and FAS realty to give her the time she needed to move. She is also appreciative for the many volunteers who assisted her with the moving process. She is excited to be able to share her experience and encourage others who are struggling to call CJJC and join the fight for Housing For All. All the calls and emails had an effect and kept FAS Realty from throwing her out in 15 days. They the community wrath and all eyes were on them. The fight is not yet over, but the effort to get her the time to pull her items together had an impact and kept Francis Ho and FAS Realty at bay. Ultimately she does not get to stay in the home she owned for 38 years, and predatory lending continues to plague and uproot the lives of many homeowners, but the pressure placed helped Ms. Gooch move forward and kept her spirits up knowing all of the support response was so quick and compassionate.

Thelma Gooch got a bad loan to fix up her home and was suddenly faced with foreclosure. The fly-by-night company she hired to help with her case, lost it and before she knew it, she was looking at losing the home she had raised her family in for 38 years. All she still owed on that loan was $4,500. The foreclosure basically amounts to the swindle and theft of her home. The last five years have seen the largest loss of wealth for African-Americans in this country’s history. Foreclosures like this are the daily evidence.

On January 9, without prior notice, the Sheriff showed up at Ms. Gooch’s house to evict her. FAS Real Estate bought her home at auction. They are being inflexible. They will not let Ms. Gooch stay in her home at night, even to pack her things They’ve given her two weeks to move out. Now she is out in the cold. She wants at least 90 days to remain in the home while she figures out what to do next. It’s the least FAS Realty could do

To:
Francis Ho, 510-748-9033, FAS Realty, 14429 Catalina Street, San Leandro, CA
Francis Ho, Don't put Thelma Gooch, 78, out in the cold. I expect you to give a house key to Ms. Gooch and allow her to stay in her home for at least 90 days. She's owned her home for 38 years. Subjecting her to the fear and worry of trying to figure out what to do in two weeks is cruel.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

Injustices like this must be done away with! Lack of empathy and excess of greed in the banking and realty sectors has been tearing the nation apart.

God will provide all,our needs. This is truly a need, a need to pray for the greedy people who heart has become stone. Mother Gooch God knows and hears your pray. Look to the hills, whence your help comes from. Blessings to you!

It's not fair its inconsiderate of the realty company and if they'd experienced being homelessness then they could and would be more compassionate to the situation.

If possible, I would like to help mrs. Gooch pay off her mortgage. I just think it's ridiculous that someone could loose there home over such a small sum of money.
