Zoo World in Panama City Beach, Florida, is too small to house large herd animals like giraffes!

Please visit www.betterzoo.com for more details, photos of the animals and videos!! I am a mother of a military family, when we moved to this part of Florida I was excited to be so close to the ocean and beautiful beaches that the Gulf Coast has to offer. However, I am most certainly not happy with the inhumanity I see when I drive by Zoo World every day on my way to the beach with my children.

Animals are not given enough space, and rather than fundraising to build better, more humane conditions for these animals, the Zoo is trying to raise money to buy another giraffe!

Even very young children know this is wrong. When we first visited Zoo World not too long ago, my kids were telling me how sad the animals look. When I started talking to other mothers in the area, I knew that I'm not alone in wanting better conditions for these animals.

We can not allow more large herd animals to be crammed into such a small space on the beach! Zoo World has very little funding for the number of animals (250+) that it cares for! But yet they intend on spending $50,000 or more on giraffes after the last giraffe died this July.

This zoo is an extremely small "zoo" located in the tourist destination of Panama City Beach. The "zoo" is much too small for large animals, the enclosures are extremely small, and the animals look miserable, depressed and bored.

Recently I pushed for the giraffe, Sydney, to have a larger enclosure. I discussed the issue with numerous people at Zoo World. One of which was the project manager and designer of the enclosures who obnixiously laughed at me stating "Animals do not need to move!! They move only for food and sex. Do you think they would run if they didn't have to?"

They expanded the poor giraffe's enclosure by 600 square feet, but the giraffe died recently. Now Zoo World is raising money from the public to purchase yet another giraffe. This needs to stop. Zoo World is too small to offer this herd animal a good environment. Animals need exercise to stay healthy both physically and mentally. Join us on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Zoo-World-is-Too-Small-for-Another-Lonely-Giraffe/407840125944961?ref=hl

Please sign and share my petition to let Zoo World and local Panama City Beach authorities know that Zoo World's poor treatment of animals is a stain on the otherwise great vacation destination and wonderful community! We are asking Zoo World to stop buying more large animals and start putting the money back into maintaining a better quality of life for the animals that it already HAS!

No zoo is really a good zoo, but some very few help - perhaps - preserve some endangered animals. Animal reserves are far better. We have so many ways of seeing animals in nature today we do not need to entrap them to show them to children...a bad lesson.

Besides the stress of captivity, it is in humans best interest to treat these animals humanely so they might prosper in the face of so many adversities.
